3rd CABES peer-to-peer learning event to prepare for the 12th IPBES Plenary

As part of the CABES Capacity Development Programme (CCDP) for professionals, CABES in collaboration with FRB (Fondation pour la Recherche sur la Biodiversité) organized its third peer-to-peer learning event to prepare delegates for the 12th IPBES Plenary in Manchester, UK. The event was held from 1–2 December 2025 in Lomé, Togo.

It brought together both experienced and new IPBES and CBD National Focal Points from 20 countries: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, and Togo.

The first objective of the event was to create a platform for IPBES and CBD National Focal Points to exchange experiences and prepare for the upcoming IPBES Plenary, scheduled for 3–8 February 2026. The second objective focused on discussing options for engaging experts and stakeholders in the IPBES work programme. This included, for example, participation in the review of draft reports such as the IPBES Monitoring Assessment, the nomination of experts, and the promotion of national use and awareness of IPBES outputs.
